Inyo County Aging and Social Services helps ensure the protection of children, the elderly, and dependent adults. To do this, they provide a safety net for individuals and families who need assistance with basic necessities, such as food, housing and health care and help people secure employment through education, training, job search skills, and job placement.

Adult Protective Services

These services protect, prevent, and remedy abuse of adults 60 and older and dependent adults, by investigating elder and dependent adult abuse, cases of neglect and abandonment, and physical, sexual and financial abuse.

Child Protective Services

These services investigate reports of suspected child abuse and neglect as well as meets with families who do not meet the minimum community standards of health and safety as required by law.

These services aim to support and provide assistance to seniors.

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program

This program is an alternative to out-of-home care (such as nursing homes) by financially assisting with services for aged, blind, or disabled individuals who cannot live at home safely without in-home care.

Services that can be provided through IHSS include:

  • housecleaning
  • meal preparation
  • laundry
  • grocery shopping
  • personal care services (such as bowel and bladder care, bathing, grooming and paramedical services)
  • accompaniment to medical appointments
  • protective supervision for the mentally impaired

To be eligible for IHSS Services, a person must meet the following conditions:

  • Be disabled, blind, or age 65 or older (children potentially eligible)
  • Unable to live safely in their own home without assistance
  • Meet financial need requirements

Long-Term Care Ombudsman

Long-Term Care Ombudsman representatives make unannounced visits to long-term care facilities to assist residents with issues related to day-to-day care, health, safety and personal preferences.
