Rainbow Packs distribute thousands of backpacks with free school supplies to elementary school students in need throughout the LA Unified School District.
Kindergarten through 2nd graders receive a backpack, pencil box/bag, box of 24 crayons, 12 pencils, 1 eraser, 1-2 glue sticks, 2 folders and 1 pencil sharpener.
Students entering grades 3-5 receive a backpack, binder, pencil box/bag, 1 package of notebook paper, 12 pencils, 8 ballpoint pens, 1 highlighter, 1 eraser, 1-2 glue sticks, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 box of 10-12 colored pencils, 1 ruler and 2 folders.
Supplies are not guaranteed and are completely based on donations. Rainbow Packs prefers to call these “homework supplies,” since they are often more needed at home than at school.
Rainbow Packs are distributed at certain schools throughout the LA Unified School District during the first two days of school. In 2016, Rainbow Packs were distributed at Haddon, Telfair Avenue, Pacoima Charter and Sara Coughlin Elementary Schools.
